slide2The West Memphis Fire Department proudly protects 28,000 people living in an area of 29 square miles. The WMFD protects a primarily residential area, plus 2 major Interstates and 3 major railroads that run through our city.

The West Memphis Fire Department was established in 1929 as a volunteer fire department at which time the city purchased a hose cart and some 2 1/2” hose. In 1955, the fire department built its first fire station and became a paid fire department. Today, the WMFD has four fire stations and is a fully paid fire department with 62 members, which include: Chief, Assistant Chief, 3 Battalion Chiefs, 3 Division Chiefs, 12 Lieutenants, 15 Drivers, 10 Paramedics, 15 firefighters and 2 secretaries.
